Anticipation

I planted close to 50 bulbs all around the yard this last fall. Crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths, & tulips....they will bloom early Spring (in our state that means June), mid-Spring (mid-June) & late Spring (late June). I can't wait! James, put all your mini-films on a one-hour disc & sell them at the Hello Minnesota-type stores. They're classic! They bring warmth to the very name 'Minnesota' which is absolutely necessary this year. Thanks for your contribution to our local identity!

Spring!

Enjoyed seeing the Home & Garden Show with classic Lileks's spin.

Water Feature

That was a pretty cool water feature in the video. You ought to get one of those things for your back yard, JL. Oh, wait....

Three Weeks 'til Spring!

I can't wait to start my tomato seedlings. I was away from home last spring, and didn't put in a garden. This year's gonna be a different story! Tomatoes, green beans, corn, sunflowers....

Can't wait to buy that truckload of compost! I can smell it now.

Spring?

Nice to see something growing. We're getting more snow here in Ohio.

Re: Water Feature

LOL at brianrw00.

In possibly related news...

What in the heck is the "latest image" a picture of?

Home shows

Great stuff, James, thank you so much. Went to the Home & Patio show a year ago, got my 55 year old tub refinished by a guy there. I love the shows, but very seldom find anything that fits with my home & lifestyle...or pocketbook!

I planted my tomatoes on Valentine's Day, leaf lettuce a few days later. Protected it last night from what I hope is the last frost of the season. Best reason to live in Jax is homegrown tomatoes in May!

Today's Bleat

So Child:
1) Doesn't think the President can make everyone happy
2) Doesn't want everyone to do whatever they want (such as robbery)
3) Doesn't want to turn the US into an Orwellian world of cameras everywhere.

(G)Nat for president!
Or at least give her the vote, she already seems to have a better grasp of policy than many voters.

spring smell...

Cedar chips? No, it's the smell of thawing dog droppings that everyone else seems to associate with spring.

I'll skip the home part, but garden sounds nice about now

I can't recall ever having attended one of these home and garden shows, but every year around Mother's Day, I put together a planter at my parents' house, which involves a trip to Molbak's, a sprawling nursery located in Woodinville WA (about five miles from where I live) with a huge selection of flowers. They also sell a fair bit of home decor stuff (during the Holidays they have a huge seleciton of ornaments,) but most of that is rather expensive, so I mostly stick to the plants. It's a great place to walk around though.

The Sledgehammer: Version 2.0 - I let my mind wander and it never came back.

home and garden show

Here in Central Arizona, we have "reverse" planting seasons. We plant in the fall, so the spring and summer flowers bloom before they are turned to toast. I picked my first Sweet Pea today. They are my all time favorite flower. It was 82 degrees and absolutely gorgeous!

Convention Center

This year, at the end of September, a swarm of emergency department nurses will invade Minneapolis for their annual Scientific Assembly, which happens to be held at the Convention Center. I haven't been to MN since 1995, so I am thrilled to be going! Hey, Host - bring your camera! Nothing like a bunch of professional nurses sitting in seminars to brighten up the Buzz... : D

E.V.

Never has so much entertainment value been squeezed from the Home and Garden show (see also: blood, turnips). May have been the "Concrete Visions" comment . . .
